2017 courses are open: apply

The Tatoosh School anticipates awarding over $ 20,000 in scholarships for this year’s courses.  For many of our students, field study would not be possible without the generous aid of our donors, who support outstanding candidates via the Bridger Scholarship Fund and through direct giving.

To apply for a scholarship, contact the school to request a scholarship application (pdf). Complete applications are reviewed once students are accepted to a Tatoosh program. Incomplete applications are not considered.

Bridger Scholarship aid is available to applicants who show great potential to excel as Tatoosh students and who would be unable to attend without financial aid. Depending upon course type and cost, a typical program award ranges from $500 to $2,000. Full tuition scholarships are rare. Please do not apply for a higher dollar amount than you need.

In addition, a growing number of schools allow students to take institutional financial aid off-campus. Check with your financial aid office to see what aid you may be able to apply to your Tatoosh program.

All applications are reviewed by the scholarship committee weekly, with decision notification by email. While there is no specific application deadline, Tatoosh scholarship funds are limited and are awarded on a first come, first served basis.

Course costs cover instruction and programming, air travel round-trip between Seattle and Alaska, kayaking and camping equipment, field research equipment, ground and water transport, group dinners, and course texts, technology, and journals.

A course with the Tatoosh School is a valuable education experience that results in tangible academic, professional, and personal benefits. What students learn in the field will stick. By asking questions and finding answers with boots on the ground, students gain an understanding of structures that provides for natural transference into other classes and future careers. In addition, available credit options are widely recognized as rigorous and foundational to those pursuing degrees in biology, ecology, environmental studies, geography, forestry, fisheries science, and many interdisciplinary programs.
